Let the insolent be put to shame, because they have wronged me with falsehood; as for me, I will meditate on your precepts.
For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.
But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ‘They hated me without a cause.’
The proud one shall stumble and fall, with none to raise him up, and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour all that is around him.
The insolent have dug pitfalls for me; they do not live according to your law. All your commandments are sure; they persecute me with falsehood; help me!
The insolent utterly deride me, but I do not turn away from your law.
Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.
You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from your commandments.
They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me without cause.
More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore?
Let them be put to shame and disappointed altogether who rejoice at my calamity! Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me!
For without cause they hid their net for me; without cause they dug a pit for my life.
Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.
O Lord my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah
but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
And he said, “Why does my lord pursue after his servant? For what have I done? What evil is on my hands?
He said to David, “You are more righteous than I, for you have repaid me good, whereas I have repaid you evil.
Behold, this day your eyes have seen how the Lord gave you today into my hand in the cave. And some told me to kill you, but I spared you. I said, ‘I will not put out my hand against my lord, for he is the Lord's anointed.’ See, my father, see the corner of your robe in my hand. For by the fact that I cut off the corner of your robe and did not kill you, you may know and see that there is no wrong or treason in my hands. I have not sinned against you, though you hunt my life to take it. May the Lord judge between me and you, may the Lord avenge me against you, but my hand shall not be against you.
