then he declares to them their work and their transgressions, that they are behaving arrogantly.
But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.
Because he has stretched out his hand against God and defies the Almighty,
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,
“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’
Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions that he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ O house of Israel, are my ways not just? Is it not your ways that are not just? “Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord God. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin. Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel?
Why should a living man complain, a man, about the punishment of his sins? Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!
For our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities:
It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.
Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word.
Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and whom you teach out of your law,
Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you.
I will say to God, Do not condemn me; let me know why you contend against me.
Therefore the Lord brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh with hooks and bound him with chains of bronze and brought him to Babylon. And when he was in distress, he entreated the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. He prayed to him, and God was moved by his entreaty and heard his plea and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord was God.
Furthermore, the Lord was angry with me because of you, and he swore that I should not cross the Jordan, and that I should not enter the good land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance. For I must die in this land; I must not go over the Jordan. But you shall go over and take possession of that good land.
