For then I would have lain down and been quiet; I would have slept; then I would have been at rest,
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.
If a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with life's good things, and he also has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he. For it comes in vanity and goes in darkness, and in darkness its name is covered. Moreover, it has not seen the sun or known anything, yet it finds rest rather than he.
One dies in his full vigor, being wholly at ease and secure,
They spend their days in prosperity, and in peace they go down to Sheol.
whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!
If I hope for Sheol as my house, if I make my bed in darkness,
But a man dies and is laid low; man breathes his last, and where is he? As waters fail from a lake and a river wastes away and dries up, so a man lies down and rises not again; till the heavens are no more he will not awake or be roused out of his sleep.
the land of gloom like thick darkness, like deep shadow without any order, where light is as thick darkness.”
Why do you not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity? For now I shall lie in the earth; you will seek me, but I shall not be.”
The eye of him who sees me will behold me no more; while your eyes are on me, I shall be gone. As the cloud fades and vanishes, so he who goes down to Sheol does not come up; he returns no more to his house, nor does his place know him anymore.
